This is a new problem for me: everything worked fine a week ago. After that, the next copy/paste or drag/drop will copy the directory contents. For this to work the latest version of the Guest. Note that your guest machine does NOT need to be powered off. Repeated copy/paste or drag/drop will copy the next (empty) directory, and then the next, and so on until all of the directories have been copied. Oracle VM VirtualBox enables you to drag and drop content from the host to the guest, and vice versa. One way to transfer files is by using the Shared Folders feature of VirtualBox which allows a directory on the host computer to be mounted or mapped on a guest that has the Guest Additions installed. Open the Oracle VM VirtualBox manager on your host machine, select the target guest OS, and click Settings. Attempt to copy and paste, or drag and drop, to the shared folder copies only the first directory, and does not copy any of its contents. Opening two file windows in the guest, one at C:\Downloads, the other at Z: Step 1: Click on Devices > Shared Clipboard > Bidirectional.

This is NOT caused by a leading dot in a file name or directory name, because there are not any.
